Many of the old favorites are back in action in the latest entry in the Pennsylvania Dutch mystery series by Tamar Myers.In a way this is good, but in another way, it is not. The story lines for some characters have extended into absurdity beyond belief (the Sisters of Perpetual Apathy? Come on!) There are little disconnects within the story. The epilogue, as a previous reviewer noted, is a bit upsetting. This may well be the end of the series and, while I would miss it, the author should give it up if she is bored with the characters -- as she seems to be. On the other hand, there is an ambiguity that suggests the rebirth of Magdalena in a whole new milieu. We shall see. In sum, I would recommend picking this up if you are a fan of the series and you are wondering what comes next. Lots of storylines are resolved. There are some fun moments. But the zesty fun of the early series is pretty much gone.

I was not happy with this book at all. Magdalena has always been over the top and exaggerated -- this time is it just absolutely ridiculous!

I will not make the mistake of buying another of these books.
I read some of Myer's books years ago. I can't say why this one was not enjoyable. Unbelievable, slightly boring. I could never see her married. (and I won't tell the end). Perhaps someone of the Amish or Mennonite faiths might enjoy the tales she chooses to tell.
I have thoroughly enjoyed Tamar Myers "Pennsylvania Dutch Mystery" series. I enjoy reading the recipes, adapting those that I can for my dietary concerns, and getting into the current murder/mystery. I will say I was surprised at the turn of events at the end of this book, I didn't expect what happened, and it caught me completely flat-footed. But I will be there when the next edition is released.
Have enjoyed this series for many years. After reading the online reviews, I was almost afraid to purchase. I'm glad I did anyway. This is a fun book with an enjoyable lead character. I've always laughed along with the crazy paths that her thought processes take and this is no exception. If you're looking for Shakespeare, this is not it, but if you want to spend a couple of silly, entertaining hours, this is for you. Life is hard enough, add a little happiness.
